Should A Sales Person Be Marketer At The Same Time?

In my years in the Service Industry, I have experienced a reality which of course is not peculiar to me. I have worked as a Sales Person and as a Marketer at the same time.

Should this be the case, and of what effect does it have on Companies’ productivity?

Let’s separately define Sales & Marketing (Mariam Webster Dictionary):

☑️ Sales-
The act of selling something : the exchange of goods, services, or property for money.

☑️ Marketing-
The activities that are involved in making people aware of a company’s products, making sure that the products are available to be bought, etc.

Summarily, a Sales Person converts the awareness created by the Marketing Department/Marketer into financial inflow for the Company.

Though interdependent, it’s a no-brainer that the separation of duties of Sales from Marketing increases productivity of Staff.

Why then do some Companies force their Staff to be involved in Sales & Marketing at the same time and on very little pay with targets🕐?

Some Companies do not even provide marketing materials, yet they expect ROI💰 or they put the blame on their Staff.

What do you guys think?
